Candles to Be Lit...

"We must view young people
not as empty bottles to be filled,
but as candles to be lit."
~ Robert H. Shaffer
(professor of education at Indiana University)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I appreciate the way this quote is worded.
Our goal isn't necessarily to fill
our children's brains with knowledge and such...
but instead, our goal is to ignite the fire within them,
to create and encourage a passion for learning.
When we have taught them to love to learn,
we have accomplished a wonderful thing
as a mother and as their teacher.
We have also set them up for a lifetime of learning
and our efforts have not been done in vain.
Yes, that is my goal. To give them the love of learning on their own.
Have a very Blessed Mother's Day with your sweet children!
Hugs,
Karen
This goes right along the same line with the part of a Charlotte Mason book I am reading.I've enjoyed catching up with you and the kids on your blog. The strawberries and jam made my mouth water and the rain looked oh so refreshing! Happy Mother's Day!
Hi there, I just found your blog today and I am so happy I did! I have already put you on my favorites list. We are a homeschooling family with 5 children. I know I will be encouraged here. BTW, are you on Hearthkeepers? If so, you might remember me.
