Hold the Fort...

This year, I have enjoyed working
with our chuch's children's choir.
It's such a blessing to see them
sing their heart out for the Lord.

This Sunday they sang "Hold the Fort"
(from "Soul Stirring Songs and Hymns")

They sang the first and last stanzas.
Here are the words they sang
and below is a video of them singing. ;o)

Hold the Fort

Ho! My comrades, see the signal
Waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing
Victory is nigh!

chorus:
"Hold the fort, for I am coming!"
Jesus signals still,
Wave the answer back to Heaven
"By Thy grace, we will!"

Fierce and long the battle rages,

But our Help is near;
Onward comes our great Commander
Cheer, my comrades, cheer!

"Hold the fort, for I am coming!"
Jesus signals still,
Wave the answer back to Heaven
"By Thy grace, we will!"

The video isn't working for me, but I just love that song!

I have been in churches where they wave their Bibles in the air on the chorus, and I must say it gives me goosebumps every time.

Have a wonderful evening.

Thanks for the video of the children singing "Hold the Fort." What it lacks in pitch--at least on the part of some singers--it makes up for in enthusiasm. More importantly, the children have learned a great old gospel song.

Have you told them a bit about the story behind it, and how Philip Bliss used it to teach a lesson about Christ's return? I mention a bit about that on my Wordwise Hymns blog today--as well as the story behind another of his songs, "Let the Lower Lights Be Burning." (The latter might make a fine children's song too.)

Keep up the good work, and may the Lord bless you.

Thanks, all.

Thank you, Robert, for sharing that brief information about the song and for the song recommendation. I was unable to connect to your blog, though.
