Our Independence Day Trip...

The children and I had a wonderful time
as we went on our little trip today.
We visited a colonial palace
that was built between 1767 and 1770,
and used as the first permanent capitol
of the Colony of North Carolina
and a home for the Royal Governor and his family.

We had a lovely time!
We learned a little about basketweaving,
watched a colonial concert,
toured the shop, the grounds, and the garden.
We played colonial games,
witnessed a dramatic reading of the
1st reading of The Declaration of Independence,
listened to the drum and fife band,
wax sealed our own Declaration of Independence,
saw a colonial hanging and tea party,
and visited with the colonials
(including other homeschoolers).

I took quite a few photos
so thought it best to share them in a slideshow.

We truly did have a lovely time!

Looks like a fun day.

I'd like to say thank you for the sacrifice that you and your children make each day, carrying on without your husband at home. You appear to be doing a wonderful job, Christina. I know that it is not as easy as it looks. Please thank your husband for me as well. We are thankful, as a family, that there are Christian men in our military. It makes us rest easier knowing that they pray before acting. God bless you all!

Now THAT looks like a blast! I want to go to Williamsburg so bad and of course your pictures remind me of it. What a wonderful thing to do with your children. I also love that you dressed them in costume for the event. I hope they remember this for a long time. You're such a wonderful mother! :-)

Love,
Malina

Beautiful! Love your outfits. When I was around 12 (1976) we celebrated the Bicentennial by making colonial outfits, too. :-D Looks like you all had fun.

Bren ~ It was a wonderful day. I'm glad y'all enjoyed the slideshow. ;o)

Tracy ~ Thank you very much for your kind comments and encouargement. They were a real blessing to me. In all honesty, it isn't at easy as it probable looks. There are many rough (and lonely) moments but we do know this is the Lord's will for us right now and I am thankful that I have the opportunity to be a helpmeet to my husband as he is serving our country.
Thank you, again.

Connie ~ It was a very enjoyable day and I was thankful the children and I were able to experience it.

Pam ~ Come on up for a visit and I'll take y'all. ;o) We really like the colonial times!

Dina ~ Yes, it was a wonderful day. Yes, it was quite hot. I got a sunburn on my neck and the children were quite thristy often. ;o) But it was well worth it.

Malina ~ It really was a lot of fun! We went to Williamburg this past March (I posted about it then). That is where we got our clothing (though they could be made much cheaper). I'm sure they (and I) will always remember it. We have lots of photos to look back on. ;o) Thank you for your kind words. They were a blessing. *Ü*

Ginny ~ What a wonderful memory you have! That would have been a lot of fun, too!

Amy ~ Yes, it was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. I love when we can experience living history!

Devildog Wife ~ We really enjoyed Williamsburg in March. They have a home educators week twice a year that offers discounted tickets! That's how we went.

Jess ~ It was very neat. Glad you liked the pics.

Madeleine ~ lol, yes, some people must have thought we were part of the show because a few asked us for directions and such. But many people knew we were just visiting and quite a few asked to take
pictures of us. A few got a kick out of our colonial Crocs, too. lol

Hope y'all enjoyed your 4th!

Wow!! Now I can post a comment. For some reason your blog doesn't like my computer. It usually doesn't let me post a comment. It sure does frustrate me but I keep trying. Your Independence Day looked fun. How neat to get to do what y'all got to do. Thanks for sharing the slideshow with us.

Hi there. Love the photos. I am so glad you all went to the festivities. We dejunked our front porch and pressure washed the front of the house. How patriotic! But we did see some fire works go off across the street and some gunshots being fired nearby too. Oh me, oh my!

Our house is listed through a realtor as of today. Yikes, here we go!

Glad Ally's Dr. visit went well. Have you heard anything from them on anything?

Praying for you and yours.
Love the Lord, Lisa

Lisa ~ Glad y'all were able to get some cleaning done. How exciting that your house is up. I'm praying for y'all. Can't wait to see ya!
We haven't heard back, yet, regarding Ally. I'll be sure to let you know. Talk to you soon!

Myrna ~ It was a great learning experience and, yes, so much fun. We do love to make memories together and I'm sure that one day we will all look back reminising together, too. ;o)
