Wedding Vows from the Bible...

This week, during our learning and Bible time,
we were studying in Genesis 2.
Going along with studying the first marriage,
the children and I spent time focusing on wedding vows.
Our activity was to write the wedding vows
but I thought it was a good idea to
write the wedding vows using God's Word.
So we used the concordance, along with our Bibles,
and wrote down what God says about the duties
of husbands and of wives.
Then we put our notes together,
in the form of wedding vows.
Here are samples of Ally and Will's work...
They are not written for the purpose of penmanship
and they are not, by any means, an exhaustive list
of what God expects/commands in marriage.
It is, however, what we pulled out from God's Word
and used during this time we spent together.
(you can click on the photos to see them enlarged)

I, ( wife ) , will submit to and reverence my husband,
as unto the Lord.
I will be a help meet for him,

as God designed.
I will cleave to my husband until death.

I, (husband) , will love my wife,

as Christ loves the church.
I will give honour to her, as the weaker vessel,
and be not bitter against her.
I will be the head of my wife,

as Christ is the head of the church.
I will cleave to my wife until death.

I will suffer long, be kind, envy not,
vaunt not myself, will not be puffed up.
I will not behave myself unseemly, not seek my own,
not be easily provoked, and will think no evil.
I will rejoice not in iniquity, but will rejoice in truth.
I will bear all things, believe all things,
hope all things, endure all things.

Ephesians 5:21-33; Colossians 3:18-19; 1 Peter 3:1-7)

What a blessing it was to teach
these Truths to our children
and to learn and discuss how to apply them.
What a reminder it was for me, as well!

I was, also, blessed by Ally's insight...
She noted how God showed us in His Word
that He designed someone specifically
for the man that He created,
and she noted how God still does that today...
God has a specific, particular someone
that is His will for each of us!
That Truth was an encouragement to her
and a blessed reminder!

What a blessing and treause God's Word is!

"The statutes of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart:
the commandment of the LORD is pure,
enlightening the eyes...
"More to be desired are they than gold,
yea, than much fine gold:
sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb."
~ Psalm 19:8, 10

"Thy word is very pure:
therefore thy servant loveth it."
~ Psalm 119:140

"Heaven and earth shall pass away:
but my words shall not pass away."
~ Luke 21:33

They did a wonderful job. Are you going to put these away as a keepsake for later?

How wonderful to do such an in-depth study with your two oldest, and have them see how God designed marriage and the duties each spouse has. I really like that!

Wow. What a great lesson and how wonderful to teach them so young. I know they have a good example in their parents as well.

Blessings
