Our Haven Happenings...

Things seem to be at a busy pace this week,
which is a good thing.
We've been trying to keep busy and faithful
at implementing some things into our school day.
I still have, yet, to get on a timed routine
but it does not concern me much
as long as we are accomplishing some goals. ;o)
(and we have been... praise the Lord!)

We have been digging into Genesis 1 this week
(in addition to reading a Psalm each morning)...

(This is Bible time one morning this week.)

We have enjoyed doing our copywork, vocabulary,
memory work, and other miscellaneous studies

from God's Word.
We've been using our dictionary and concordance, too,
which has been a fun blessing!
It has, also, been a blessing seeing the older ones
write their thoughts and pen prayer letters to the Lord.

Here is a sample of the younger ones copywork...

Here is a collage of the illustraions we did
for the days of creation...

(top to bottom, left to right: Carolynne, Beth, Will, Mom)

We've, also, been working on our academics.
Here are the younger ones working on
their other 'homeschool work'...

Will was highlighting important facts in Math
and Beth and Carolynne were having fun with letter sounds.

Here was Ally finishing up an experiment in the kitchen...

Yesterday we left the house to visit with friends
that had returned from a long vacation
and to go to piano lessons that Ally teaches.
I was glad for the trip, as I was able to get
a few photos of the trees that are blooming...

I believe they are Dogwoods(Bradford Pears). If not, I'd love to know. ;o)

(Thank you, ladies, for letting me know!)

Today, in the afternoon, our friends came for a visit.
The mamas sat, discussing our school plans,
while enjoying a yummy snack (well, lunch, really)...

(Yum! This is a dip that a friend introduced me to
quite a while ago.
I thought I hated sour cream until I tried this dip! Mmm!)
It was fun to sit and brainstorm together
while enjoying a delicious treat and sipping ice tea.

The younger children enjoyed a picnic lunch outside...

They spent most of the afternoon outdoors,
enjoying the beautiful weather.

The older ones did Bible study together
and enjoyed going through copies of Birds and Blooms...

It's been an enjoyable and productive week,

though I've been struggling with the time change. ;o)
We look forward to being in God's house this evening.
What a wonderful oasis it is in this dry and thristy land!

I hope y'all are enjoying your week, too!

"For his merciful kindness is great toward us:
and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever.
Praise ye the LORD."
~Psalm 117:2

"Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
and his greatness is unsearchable."
~ Psalm 145:3

What a wonderful, lovely week! I am not certain, but the trees look more like bradford pears but don't hold me to it! LOL!

What a great week so far! I always enjoy reading your posts. Just curious what books/curriculum you are using for the younger ones.

Okay, I am finally done catching up with all your posts I've missed lately. Love your photos - my favorites were of Will singing praises out of the hymn book and of Ally with her lab coat on - also liked the finches & rain. We had our first spring shower this afternoon and although gray, I loved it! Enjoy seeing the children doing their studies too!
God Bless! (I wish I could go to church with you all).
Have a lovely week!!!

HA I love allys "lab coat" its GREAT!
what a great Idea for the creation pages... did you just fold the paper that way? When we did creation, we did a new sheet each day.. whcih made for a TON of pictures on our wall. When we do creation again (as review is always good especially since my kiddos are so young) I think I will steal your idea. :P
And I am SO jealous of your blooming trees

Yes, Mrs. Michelle is correct. Those are Pear Trees. Pears do not grow on them, though.

:(

We have these beauties growing along the edge of our church property. I noticed they were in bloom today. But they don't last long. Boo Hoo

:)

Yup. If these are the trees: http://www.beirut-memorial.org/monument/index.html they are Bradford pears.

Sounds like you have had a very nice week so far. The Bradford Pears look lovely. We have 2 in our yard, but they haven't bloomed yet. They are such a pretty and fast growing tree, but a weak one. They tend to split easily in storms. :(.

I loved the collage from Genesis. I recently borrowed the idea of illustrating the Bible verses we study. At first the children weren't to sure what I wanted, but now they understand and don't find it such a challenge.

Have a blessed weekend

We lived in Virginia for 5 years just shortly after we were married. I was so amazed by the dogwoods and such in bloom! I had never seen that down here in Florida! The closest I had come to them were the orange trees, I suppose! :-) Thanks for sharing the pretty pics!

Thank you, ladies, for your kind words and for your help with the trees. ;o)

Debbie ~ We use a variety of curriculum. If you look on our sidebar, you'll see our HOMESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE. If you click on that, you'll see our intended "curriculum" for this year. In addition, we have recently implemented Student of the Word curriculum, which I hope to post about soon. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask. ;o)

Kristy Jo ~ Yes, we did just fold the paper that way. It worked out quite well since there were six days of creation. ;o)

Hi, I think I could easily get
hooked on spending all my time
on the computer when I find such
inspiring post as you have here. I
just started checking in after I
learned about your givaway from
Jennifers' page and although I
didn't win your prize I feel like
a super winner just being able to
read about your family and see
all the nice pictures. It is so
good to hear how God is blessing
His children around the world.
He is a great, almighty, awesome loving and etcccccccc. Saviour.
May He continue to bless you
and your wonderful family is
my prayer. I'd love to stick
around longer to chat but must
try to get a few things done
before I go to work at 1:00.
So long for now. Jewel
