Haven at Home Happenings: Sukkah Snapshots

This past week we enjoyed learning
about Sukkot/The Feast of Tabernacles.
Much of our week was spent
in the sukkah we made...

Among the decor...

God (Yaweh) is our Shelter

"For Thou hast been a strength (refuge; rock) to the poor,
a strength to the needy in his distress,
a refuge (shelter) from the storm, a shadow from the heat,
when the blast (spirit) of the terrible ones (oppressors)
is as a storm against the wall."
Isaiah 25:4

Jesus (Yeshua) is the Light of the world

"I am come a light into the world,
that whosoever believeth on Me
should not abide in darkness."
(John 12:46)

"To give light to them
that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace."
(Luke 1:79)

Activities in our sukkah...

Reading the Scriptures

Drawing illustrations and decor...

And, of course, eating too...

Mmmm... challah bread

"Then Jesus (Yeshua) said unto them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Moses gave you not that bread from Heaven;
but my Father giveth you
the True Bread from Heaven.
For the bread of God is He
which cometh down from Heaven,
and giveth life unto the world.
Then said they unto him,
Lord, evermore give us this bread.
And Jesus (Yeshua) said unto them,
I am the Bread of life:
he that cometh to Me shall never hunger;
and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst."
John 6:32-35

veggies and His Food for life

"And He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger,
and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not,
neither did thy fathers know;
that He might make thee know
that man doth not live by bread only,
but by every word that proceedeth
out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live."
(Deuteronomy 8:3)

The Work of HIS Hands

What a blessing to stop, be still,
and stand in awe of our Creator...
seeing Him in His handiwork.

This evening's sunset, looking to the west

And straight above, a completely different sky

Beautifully breathtaking!

"The heavens declare the glory of God (Elohim);
and the firmament sheweth his handywork."
(Psalm 19:1)

"Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth:
and the heavens are the work of thy hands."
(Psalm 102:25)

Simple Woman's Daybook ~ September 28, 2010

For today...
Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Outside my window...
clouds beautifully
stretch across the light blue sky

I am thinking...
how it has been almost a full month
since I've done a daybook
and how the Father has been
teaching me SO much lately

I am thankful ...
that my Heavenly Father
opens my blinded eyes,
that He leads me to humility,
blesses me with repentance,
and teaches me His truth..
and how He shelters me,
protects me, and defends me
against those that fear,
do not understand, and oppose

I am wearing...
a burgundy and white checkered
square neck dress
that my eldest made for me
a few years ago

I am remembering...
where my Heavenly Father
has brought me from

I am reading...
Ezekiel, Matthew
and select portions for Sukkot this week;
lesson in our Sunday evening Bible study;
"Real Christianity" by William Wilberforce;
"Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus" by Ann Spangler, Lois Tverberg

I am hoping (praying)...
for our eldest, who is at college,
to grow closer to the Savior,
to see HIS truths,
and to obey and follow HIM;
for my sister and her husband
as his father is near eternity;
for the LORD (YHWH)
to open the eyes of His people

On my mind...
the disciples, the prophets,
many others, and even Jesus (Yeshua)
suffered reproach and persecution...
and I am blessed to among them

From the learning rooms...
studying Scripture
and reading about Sukkot
(The Feast of Tabernacles)
as we observe and celebrate it

Noticing that...
HE is faithful
in calling HIS children to HIM...
revealing HIS truths and way...
and opening blinded eyes...
if we will but listen,
see, and obey.

Pondering these words...
"Blessed are ye,
when men shall revile
(reproach) you,

and persecute you,
and shall say all manner
of evil against you falsely,

for My sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad:

for great is your reward in Heaven... "
(Matthew 5:11-12)

Though it may be painful
and discouraging, at times,

I REJOICE that ...I may gain
deeper understanding of His words
as I seek His Truth! I rejoice!

"He that loveth
father or mother more than me

is not worthy of me:
and he that loveth
son or daughter more than me

is not worthy of me.
And he that taketh not his cross,
and followeth after me,

is not worthy of me."
(Matthew 10:37-38)

From the kitchen...
the younger ones
are learning
how to serve HIM.

Many yummy delights
are coming,
in celebration of this feast!

I am creating...
tea wallets
(a special request
from an online friend
but am making many more)

I am hearing...
background music
from my blog...
faint talking from the children
as they play in the family room

One of my favorite things...
learning with the children

A few plans for the rest of the week...
continue learning
and celebrating Sukkot;
sew tea wallets; mail packages;
go grocery shopping;
fellowship with friends;
enjoy the blessings of home

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

A view from inside our sukkah

"... The fifteenth day of this seventh month
shall be the feast of tabernacles
for seven days unto the LORD."
(Leviticus 23:34)

"And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD
seven days in the year.
It shall be a statute for ever in your generations..."
(Leviticus 23:41)

"And it shall come to pass,
that every one that is left of all the nations
which came against Jerusalem shall even go up
from year to year to worship the King,
the LORD of hosts,
and to keep the feast of tabernacles."
(Zechariah 14:16)

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Last week, I tried this healthier version
of this much loved cookie.

They were wonderful!
We all loved them!

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
(original recipe found HERE)

2 1/2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 1/4 cups chocolate chips
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons water
3/4 cup organic virgin coconut oil (softened)
3/4 cup honey

Preheat oven to 350°F degrees.

Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
Mix the wet ingredients in separate bowl.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients
and mix until well combined.

Roll dough into small balls,
flatten slightly and place on greased cookie sheets.
Bake in preheated oven for 18-24 minutes.
Remove from sheets to wire rack to cool.

Working Together

As we adjust to this new season of life,
with our eldest being away,
the Father continually opens my eyes
to the many and daily blessings
that He gives in each season of motherhood.

One of those has been the blessing
of seeing our younger children rally together,
to 'step up to the plate' of carrying more responsibility
in the household 'work load'.

They eagerly do what they can
to serve with joy and delight,
which, in turn, brings
joy and delight to this mama's heart.

"Two are better than one;
because they have a good reward for their labour."
Ecclesiastes 4:9

Changes of the heart and mind continue
as the Father opens my eyes to His wonderful Truth,
but the changes in this post refer to my blog. ;o)

I decided to do some more altering...
color scheme, layout, a more simplistic header
and hope to do a few more slight changes to come.

Change is fun. Change is good. :)

Haven at Home Happenings

Things have kept busy here
in our haven at home.

Last week, Daddy made a trip to New York.
We missed him but it was nice to hear
about his trip and see a photo of him
near the Statue of Liberty!

While he was away,
we began picking up the pace a little
with our homeschooling endeavors. ;o)
We were, also, able to meet with a homeschool family
that we have 'known' online a few years.

It was such a blessing to have fellowship
with another homeschooling family
and to spend the whole day together!

In learning, we have been busy
studying the Biblical fall feasts.
This past week/weekend and yesterday,
we studied about The Day of Atonement
(or Yom Kippur).
It was such a blessing to study
the Levitical sacrifices/practices
and to see how Jesus Christ (Yeshua Messiah)
fulfilled those practices and sacrifices!

We discussed many things! Among them was
the procedure for the Levitical priests to enter
into the Holy of Holies
(the most sacred part of the temple/tabernacle);
the types of sacrifices they needed to make
for the atonement of their and the nations sins;
and how Jesus (Yeshua)
is/was our eternal atoning sacrifice
and He is our High Priest!

"In Whom we have redemption
through His blood,
the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of His grace"
(Ephesians 1:7)

Among the many Scriptures we read
was the book of Jonah.
We read and discussed the Father's great mercy,
love, and longsuffering for all.

Will read it aloud to us

And in the midst of our days,
we have been enjoying the comforts of home
and being together...

Pajama tea party behind the sofa

Snuggling with our 'furry sister'... ;o)

Enjoying games together...

The victory pose ;o) lol

We continue this week with our learning
and look forward to studying the upcoming
Feast of Tabernacles/Succot!

May you, too, have a blessed week
as you seek and serve Him!

How Deep the Father's Love for Us

Sang this song over and over today.
Made it into this video.
How deep, how great
the Father's love
truly is toward us!

(Please be sure to stop the background music,
found in the right sidebar)

7 Day Modesty Challenge: Day 7

Just the dress
to spend His day of rest in...

Regency dress in seer sucker fabric
(made by me),
white covering

I've enjoyed sharing a week of dresses
(well, almost a full week).
I hope it has encouraged some,
whether to continue on,
to give it a try,
or to consider.

May we seek Him,
drawer nearer to Him,
and embrace the femininity
He created in our design!

"Strength and honour are her clothing;
and she shall rejoice in time to come."
Proverbs 31:25

7 Day Challenge: Day 6
7 Day Challenge: Day 5
7 Day Challenge: Day 4
7 Day Challenge: Day 3
7 Day Challenge: Day 2
(Day 1... missed it...
but better late than never)

How about you?!
Wearing dresses?
Ever wanted to?

You don't have to wait for a challenge,
for a special occasion,
or for some spiritual revelation.
Just do it. ;o)
Embrace the femininity
He has created you with!

Haven at Home Happenings...

It's been a full week here!

We were blessed to have Daddy at home
all day on Monday, as he had the day off.
We enjoyed our time with him
and enjoyed having supper outside, too!

Daddy and Will went shopping together
to pick up a new lawnmower for Will to use.
Will was very eager to try it out
and did a wonderful job!

Manual reel lawnmower

He was cheered on
by his youngest sister...

Also, Daddy was able to get a new couch
for our family room,
which is much more comfortable
than the camping chairs we've been using. ;o)

Daddy and I brought it into the house one evening
as the children were sleeping.
I woke the next morning
to find them gathered on it,
reading books together.
A joyous sight!

Our first (and second) care package
went out to our eldest this week.
This was a strange event...
usually our care packages are for Daddy
when he is overseas on deployment...
It was bittersweet to put them together
for our eldest daughter.
But we delighted in blessing her
with a variety of treats!

Beth helped to string flowers
onto a string for a lei for Ally's head
for an upcoming luau she'll be going to.
Beth enjoyed stringing flowers for her sister...

And, of course, added to those care packages
were hand written, heart felt letters...

We, also, managed to fit in a little "school time".
The children did some seatwork on their own
(and together)...

Beth and Carolynne took turns reading
from a science book

Will working on his Language Arts

This week we focused on
learning about Yom Teruah
(The Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah).

Coloring pages of blowing the shofar

It has been such a joy to learn about
the feasts our Creator has set aside!
We look forward to learning much more
this upcoming year!

We look forward to His day of rest
before beginning a new week.
I hope you have had a blessed week, as well,
and find your rest in Him.

"And ye shall seek me, and find me,
when ye shall search for me
with all your heart."
Jeremiah 29:13
