Haven at Home Happenings

It's been a while since I've shared
some of our weekly happenings,
especially regarding homeschool.
This past week was a busy one of learning.
I cannot express what a delight it has been
to dig deep into Scriptures each week with the children.
We are learning SO much! It has been such a blessing!

This week we studied through a few chapters in Genesis,
reading and discussing about Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob, & Esau.
There were so many things to learn
about each one's character!
And the Scriptures and full of so much symbolism.
It is truly beautiful!

Drawing illustrations and doing worksheets
about Jacob and Esau and the birthright.

Here are a few worksheets the younger girls did...

Will working on a character study about Esau and Jacob

Scripture Illustrations...

Miscellaneous seatwork throughout the week...

Branching off from our Scripture study
to learn about hand dug wells...

Will and Beth illustrated and did written narration
while Carolyne worked on a larger, detailed illustration

Also, this week, we met missionaries to France.
We printed a coloring page from our missionary coloring book
that had the French flag, outline of the country,
a french girl with cultural clothing, and John 3:16 in french.
The visiting missionary read the verse in french
out loud to the children, which they really enjoyed!

It was a wonderful week of learning and growth.
Full of His many blessings!

"Come, ye children, hearken unto me:
I will teach you the fear of the LORD {YHVH}."
Psalm 34:11

"And that from a child thou hast known
the holy scriptures, which are able
to make thee wise unto salvation through faith
which is in Christ Jesus {Messiah Yeshua}."

2 Timothy 3:15

Shalom!

It looks like it was a wonderful week, do you have any ideas on using the Torah portion for older homeschool children....my daughter is 14...I am trying to pull something together... ;0)

Andi ~
I don't know if you've researched any of Charlotte Mason's methods but they have been very helpful in our homeschool (though I don't utilize them as often as I'd like). There's lots of info online.
This is my first time following the Torah portions, though we have tried to have Scripture as the center of our homeschool for quite some time now. I have simple been praying, asking Him to show me what we can branch off on and have, also, been asking the children. Brainstorming what to dig deeper into can be a lot of fun. ;o)
You could let her do a few research paper (not too long, though) on various things from the Torah portions; copy Scripture for penmanship & grammar practice; vocabulary study; concordance usage; character studies; draw illustrations in more detail (like the anatomy of the camel, or the history of water wells); geography using the places mentioned in Scripture (either printing out maps and labeling them or letting her draw one herself); keeping a timeline/book of centuries; study plants mentioned, animals, tent making; all about twins; genealogy; deserts; foods mentioned; history happening in other parts of the world... there are SO many possibilities (those were just a very few)! ;o)
Just talking about it is motivating myself. lol
Hope that sparks a few ideas.
Shalom!

It looks like the Lord is doing wonderful things in your lives. I was wondering if you will be sharing about your covering. I've been praying about this for sometime. I guess I am thinking to much about how family and others will react. A view other biblical wrestling to go with it. I really would like to obey the Lord and block out the rest. God Bless you, Denise

Greetings Denise ~ I do hope to share about covering (just not sure of exactly when). I want to be sure my writing it is bathed in prayer. I will share, since you mentioned, that I found myself a bit concerned about others' responses, as well. I had to lay that, as well as other things, at His feet, had to listen to His leading and then it came down to me 'choosing this day whom I would serve'... I knew He was leading me in the way of covering, so I took a step of obedience and a 'leap' of faith and did. Yes, I have had comments... many, in fact. Some good, some not. As will be with just about everything in life and living for Him. But I am glad I chose to. It has been a blessing to me and I enjoy covering!
I hope to share more soon. :)
