Simple Woman's Daybook ~ November 30, 2009
For today... November 30, 2009
Outside my window...
darkness fills the night,
the rain is lightly falling
I am thinking...
of the good time that we had today,
as a family, spending time with friends
I am thankful for...
the blessing of the Holy Spirit
I am wearing...
black/brown paisley,
square neck/regency style dress
I am remembering...
to trust the Lord
and to choose gratitude
I am going...
to enjoy a cup of hot chai green tea
before retiring for the night
I am reading...
my KJ Bible through in a year,
currently in Nehemiah, Song of Solomon, 2 Corinthians;
the book of Job with my husband;
A Wife After God's Own Heart by Elizabeth George;
A Woman's Walk With God by Elizabeth George;
When Women Walk Alone by Cindi McMenamin;
For Women Only by Shaunti Feldhahn;
Order in the Court by Sherry Hutson Camperson;
Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey;
A Charlotte Mason Companion by Karen Andreola;
Keeping Our Children's Hearts by Steve and Teri Maxwell
How to Be Happy by Leon F. Maurer
Choosing Gratitude by Nancy Leigh DeMoss (with my eldest)
I am hoping (praying)...
for the Holy Spirit's continued work
in the hearts of the ones I love;
for those friends/family that I have
that still need to accept Christ as their Savior;
for my aunt that is very ill
On my mind...
the love of God
From the learning rooms...
being students of God's Word in John and Ruth;
learning of Ancient Greece
and other miscellaneous subjects
Noticing that...
giving thanks and praise to the LORD of all
is easy, natural, and overflowing when we have a heart
of thankfulness and an attitude of gratitude
Pondering these words...
"Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks,
and to look well to thy herds."
~ Proverbs 27:23
(my "Mama-ing" verse)
From the kitchen...

On the Menu...

rain falling outside the window
and classical favorites playing
from my computer
One of my favorite things...
spending a day with friends
A few plans for the rest of the week...
focus on some learning moments;
clean the church; go to the commisary;
attend our midweek prayer/Bible service;
go to Beth's violin master's class;
go to our homeschool group's park day;
enjoy the time that we get to have at home ;o)
Here is picture thought I am sharing...

It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed,
because his compassions fail not,
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."

Praise God for such a wonderful hope!
Praise Him that He is Faithful!
Have a wonderful week!

To God Be the Glory...
To God be the glory - great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the Life-gate that all may go in.
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory - great things He hath done!
O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
To ev'ry believer the promise of God;
The vilest offended who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory - great things He hath done!
Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
and great our rejoicing thru Jesus the Son;
But purer and higher and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory - great things He hath done!
Fanny Crosby, 1820-1915; William H. Doane, 1832-1915
"Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power,
be unto him that sitteth upon the throne,
and unto the Lamb for ever and ever."
~ Revelation 5:13
"...To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen."

For today... November 23, 2009
Outside my window...
the sun is shining through the cloudy sky
and there's a cool autumn air
I am thinking...
of the admonition and challenge from God's Word
in yesterday's services, how it applies to me as a mother.
I am thankful for...
every thing! How God just blesses and blesses!
I am thankful for the wonderful God I serve and love
and that He first loved me!
I am wearing...
sleepytime attire, at present
I am remembering...
to trust the Lord
and to choose gratitude
I am going...
to enjoy the blessings of home this week
I am reading...

for the Holy Spirit's continued work
in the hearts of the ones I love;
for those friends/family that I have
that still need to accept Christ as their Savior;
for my mama's recovery from surgery this week
On my mind...
the longsuffering and goodness of God
From the learning rooms...
being students of God's Word in John and Judges;
memorizing Psalm 107:1 and Psalm 100:4;
book and audio selections about America's
first Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims and Indians;
hymn study on giving thanks to God
Noticing that...
giving thanks and praise to the LORD of all
is easy, natural, and overflowing when we have a heart
of thankfulness and an attitude of gratitude

and will yet praise thee more and more."

I am hearing...
Suzie scratching at the door to come inside;
the children playing in the reading room
One of my favorite things...
the Friend I have in Jesus;
the Teacher and Comforter
that I have in the Holy Spirit
A few plans for the rest of the week...
enjoy our week of light, holiday schooling;
have tea with a friend; clean the church;
enjoy fellowshipping and praising God
with our church family; enjoy Thanksgiving Day

with my beloved as he'll have quite a few days off!
Here is picture thought I am sharing...
from my etsy shop
"O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good:
for his mercy endureth forever." ~ Psalm 107:1
What a wonderful command and privilege
to give our thanks to the One Whom it belongs to!
Let us not only be thankful for our blessings
but let us remember Who to give thanks to
and to give thanks for Who He is, not just what He does.
May you all have a blessed, praiseful Thanksgiving!

Haven at Home Happenings...
Sharing snapshots...
Monday morning, we enjoyed our learning at home...
Will reading about ancient Greece
while cozied up by Suzie
Carolynne and Beth coloring the world {for science}
In the afternoon, we had friends over
for tea and fellowship,
which is always a blessing.
Tuesday morning, we had our Bible time together,
worked on the laundry and other household duties
so we could spend our afternoon running errands.
We went to the fabric store to get more fabric
to make our dresses for our upcoming family photos,
then went to the thrift store to find a few items,
then the shoe store to get our fast growing son
some new church shoes, then to Beth's violin master's class.
Ally found a new outfit at the thrift store
that she was thrilled about...
We, also, found a blouse that went with the new outfit
that I purchased last week at an etsy shop...
And she, too, got new shoes. ;o)
(Is it just me or do they REALLY grow up too fast?!)
On Wednesday, we spent the day at home
plugging away at our homeschool work and homekeeping.
Ally read our Bible History lesson aloud
while I sewed a snap on her new suit jacket...
Suzie, too, tried to get in on the lesson...
But her attention span was short,
due to her new neighbor friend...
The younger children illustrated our lesson,
which was about Abimelech and how he died...
And sweet Carolynne had a special message
on the back of her illustration (as she faithfully does)...
"CAROLYNNE4MOM
I LOVE YOU MOM. YOU ARE THE BEST MOM.
I JUST LOVE YOU MOM!"
Oh, how I love those precious notes!
Something else that is simply precious to me
is to see our eldest spend time with her younger siblings.
This can sometimes be a seemingly difficult task and
I am thankful for her tender heart toward her siblings...
Here she was coloring with her younger sisters.
Today we are pressing on in our learning times
and this afternoon we will be meeting with
Beth's violin teacher to pick up some
Christmas music for Beth to work on
for the upcoming recital.
This morning, too, we are praying for my mama.
She is having her parathyroid removed around 10am.
Though we cannot be with her, we know the LORD
is with her, loves her, and is in complete control.
What a wonderful God we serve!
I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week!

Noticing that...
the Lord answers prayer,
even prayers from years ago
Pondering these words...
"Charity suffereth long, and is kind;
charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself,
is not puffed up," ~ 1 Corinthians 13:4

spending a couple of hours at church
after the service, enjoying fellowship
with dear friends and brethren in Christ
A few plans for the rest of the week...
go to Beth's violin master's class;

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life,
nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers,
nor things present, nor things to come,
nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." ~ Romans 8:38-39

Haven at Home Happenings...
Sharing snapshots...
I must confess that much of our week was
either spent running errands or spent out-of-doors.
We have been blessed, this week, with such
beautiful weather that I just couldn't resist
letting the children spend much of their days out.
But we did get some seatwork done... ;o)
Carolynne coloring in her phonics workbook
Beth working in her phonics workbook
Will added two more clay figures to his ocean box...
A sea turtle and a, ahem, sea snake (!)
We even did some of our seatwork in our pjs...
Ally enjoyed catching up on some reading...
She, also, spent much time crocheting...
Out-of-doors...
The girls made a 'house' with our empty pool...
Acorn soup...
(a variety of acorns, leaves, water, and carrots. lol)
Started a fire... (well, not really, just an imaginary one)
Thought they found a snake...
Praise the Lord it was just an earthworm! lol
Watched a cement truck...
and the men repairing the sidewalk
And worked together in the yard
after Ally blew the leaves...
Suzie enjoyed being out-of-doors, too... ;o)
"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits,
even the God of our salvation. Selah."
Psalm 68:19

Happy November!
The Wind and the Leaves
"Come, little leaves," said the wind one day,
"Come over the meadows with me and play.
Put on your dresses of red and gold, -
For summer is gone, and the days grow cold."
Soon as the leaves heard the wind's loud call,
Down they came fluttering one and all.
Over the brown fields they danced and flew,
Singing the soft little songs they knew.
Dancing and whirling, the little leaves went;
Winter had called them, and they were content;
Soon fast asleep in their earthly beds,
The snow laid a coverlet over their heads.
~ author unknown
God is Like This
I cannot see the wind at all
Or hold it in my hand;
And yet I know there is a wind
Because it swirls the sand.
I know there is a wondrous wind,
Because I glimpse its power
Whenever it bends low a tree
Or sways the smallest flower.
And God is very much like this,
Invisible as air;
I cannot touch or see Him, yet
I know that He is there
Because I glimpse His wondrous works
And goodness everywhere.
~ Rowena Bennet
November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.
With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.
