The No-Poo Challenge

To poo or not to poo...
that was the question.

After reading so much information
the past year or so
about how shampoo is harmful
to our hair and our health,
I've tossed the idea of going without it
and have done more research
on how to go without it.

When I saw the No-Poo Challenge,
I thought what a great time to
put into practice all I had learned
and give what I had been considering
a committed try.

This morning was the first time
I washed without shampoo,
using a baking soda paste
and a vinegar rinse.
So far, so good.
Soft, clean hair...
and no vinegary smell. ;o)

As I am trying this method for myself,
I am, also, considering trying it with
our younger children.
Especially after reading this...
Johnson & Johnson Toxic Baby Shampoo lawsuit
It's just way too disturbing to ignore.

I look forward to seeing the results
of this easy, healthy, and frugal method
of caring for the hair our Creator has blessed us with!

Yay for you! I love using the baking soda and vinegar shampoo/rinse! It works magic. I posted what I do on my blog; I don't know if you saw it or not. :)

hurrah for you!

How do you use the baking soda paste? I boil a quart of water and then slowly stir in 1/4 cup of baking soda. I let it cool and put in a squeeze bottle and use that. Then I add about an inch or less of apple cider vinegar in a pint jar and fill it with water and use that to rinse. I have been doing that for over a year and it works great.

I am stuck with shampoo because of my scalp problem I fear.

I went the no poo for 30 days and it did wonders... now I only wash my hair once or 2 a week with a gentle shampoo and my hair is soft and shiny and less split ends and I have fine hair :)

I just have to say be prepared for your head to go rogue and get major oily on you.. wear a covering or head scarf if you feel inclined too.. but after a few weeks your hair will be very happy you went that route.

I also want to add if your hair is naturally dry... ACV or the vinegar rinse will be too harsh and make the hair dry out more.. I had a friend report that back to me.. where I have naturally oily hair the vinegar rinse is just fine.. moderation even in el natural terms must apply as well :)

I went no poo also and LOVED it. But my scalp didn't. So, I use baking soda/vinegar every other wash. I buy a good shampoo from iHerb.com for in between.

I did the no poo for awhile, but alas, it ended up not working well for me. We've switched to a more natural, non-toxic shampoo.

Wishing you the best with your endeavor.

Miss Ra'chel ~ Today my hair seemed to do great with it. I look forward to checking out your post to see what you do, too. :o)

Marci ~ I just mixed the baking soda and water in my hand to make a paste and used it that way. I'm curious as to why you boil the mixture. Would you be willing to share? Also, do you do that procedure before each time you wash your hair or do you keep it in a bottle all the time? I was just wondering today if I could make the mixture up ahead of time and just store it in a bottle in my shower.

Michelle ~ hmmm... I know that the vinegar is drying, perhaps there is another alternative if you wanted to do 'no-poo'.

Simply Jeannie ~ Thank you for your insight. :o) Today went well. My hair was clean and soft, though I covered anyway. I know their is an egg mixture that can be used for moisture, too, and I may try that, if needed.

Elizabeth ~ Thank you for sharing. I will be keeping an eye on my scalp, too, and see if there is an alternative I can try, if I need to.

Heather ~ Thank you. :o)
