Monday's Musings...

A few moments to share a few photos and highlights
from last week and today...

Last Thursday, we attended Daddy's graduation
from 7 weeks of an advanced gunnery sergeant course.
It had a few humorous highlights
and it was a blessing to be there to support our Marine...

Also, on Thursday, I cut out dresses
for Beth, Carolynne, a regency gown for myself,
and a pair of bloomers for the lil' girls.
Friday was sourdough pizza day with friends. Yum!
And Saturday was a work day.
I did LOTS of laundry (sheets, blankets, etc...)
and Daddy worked with Will.
They steam cleaned the dining room rug together.
Here was Will in his turn...

They, also, had 'car talk', fixed a dining room chair,
and did a woodworking project together...

Making a tank from a kit a friend sent us. ;o)

Today we worked at implementing our schedule more
and picked up with our academics some.
We started off with Bible (using ideas from SOW),
reading in Genesis 21, getting vocab words from our reading,
coloring the story, and doing prayer letters.

Ally began sewing Beth's birthday dress for me
and was able to work in her Advanced Biology.

Will worked on copywork (Language and Math),
cursive, read his library books, again,
(since we return them tomorrow).
His area of choice to do his seatwork...

the garage!
It's probably the quietest place. ;o)
He and I, also, read Sciene aloud and began ancient history.

Beth and Carolynne did their Language Lessons with me
and worked on letter formation.

In addition to our academics, we blessed our home.
I worked in the kitchen and laundry room
while Will did the dining room
and vacuumed the stairs...

Beth and Carolynne worked in
the living room and the reading room,
picking up toys, putting away blankets, shoes, and books...

Ally wasn't feeling well enough to participate
so she was allowed to make her Monday post, instead.
She's been doing a series regarding
courtship/dating/betrothal.

I was, also, able to fill out lots of paperwork
for Ally's new endocrinologist,
reschedule our field trip to the island beach,
have a cup of yummy, chai green tea,
hug my children, and disciple them and teach them
as we were going about our day.
I have been praying the Lord will help me
to be more consistent in all aspects of my life
and to be so with a meek & quiet spirit.
It is not possible without the Lord
but, praise Him, that
I can do all things through Christ
which strengtheneth me"! (Philippians 4:13)"

I'm off to begin supper
and enjoy a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie
with all of my little sweeties!

I hope y'all enjoyed your day, too!

Hello! I am not sure where I found your blog, but by reading your post today I was able to see that we have a few similar beliefs. I love the dresses for your girls. Do you make similar ones for yourself? And if so where did you get the pattern?
Blessings,
Laura

Congratulations to your hubby!! I come from a Marine family. Have I said that before? My daddy was a Marine and my brother was too.

I just checked out Ally's blog and I praise the Lord for a young lady who will take the time to minister and teach other young ladies about the Biblical truths of courtship vs dating. Amen!!! We teach our children that and practice it as well. In fact...our son and his wife courted and were able to wear white (both of them) honorably on their wedding day and their first touch and their first kiss were at the wedding altar!! My oldest daughter believes this is the way God teaches in His Word too...although my youngest daughter has chosen to date. But she lives out of our home now so we can't do much about that.

You are a blessing and so is your family!!

((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))

God Bless You and your family! I enjoy coming here and reading about life in your neck of the woods. :)

Congrats goes out to your hubby!

My hubby just got out of active duty Army and will join his Reserve unit this weekend. He called them the other day and introduced himself and they were like 'SGT, we have no recollection of you in our system, are you sure you are supposed to report here'....lol. :) I guess someone didn't give him the proper orders before we left Germany. : /

Where do you get the fabric for your dresses? Is it Tropical Breeze? Poly cotton? Just wondering as I am about to order some fabric soon for myself.

May you and your family have a safe week.

Many blessings,
Dawn

Hi, I follow your blog now and I have really enjoyed it! I look forward to your posts. I was just wondering what blessing the house means and where that came from? Thanks, Joni

Laura ~ Thank you for visiting!
Yes, I do make similar ones for myself. I get the patterns for my dresses from Common Sense Patterns. You can find the link in some of our Keepers at Home posts. ;o)

Amy ~ Yes, another busy (& productive) week, I hope. ;o) Please tell your family that ours says "Hello", too. Still waiting for a visit from y'all. ;o)

Julie ~ Thank you for the congrats for my hubby. He's glad to have it completed.
Thank you for your kind and encouraging words regarding Ally. We pray that not only will the Lord use us to teach her His Truths but that they continue to become her own convictions and that He will help her to live by them, according to His will. It is such a blessing to see her growth!

Dawn ~ It's good to hear from you, again. I pray things go well with your husbands transition to the reserves.
We get almost all of our fabric from W*l-mart. I know opinions vary but I have found that the fabric there is a lot less expensive and it seems to last. I do not know exactly what the fabric is made of. I simple find a fabric that I like, feel it, contemplate if it would make a decent dress and I buy it. Perhaps, one day, I will be in a situation where I can purchase more "quality" fabric but until then (and if it never happens), I am perfectly content with the resource we have now. It has worked well for us for years. ;o)

Joni ~ Thank you for your kind words. ;o) "Blessing the house (our home)" refers to cleaning it, making it a peaceful and pleasant place of refuge. I'm not sure where the phrase first originated but we have adopted it. ;o) Hope that helps!

Hi Christina,
THANK YOU so much for the "book", you can write me one ANYTIME!!! I'm at the same place as you re: SOW, implementing some of it. We still use the Bible as our "textbook", but I also do American History separately and use other stuff as well. I also use Bedell Curriculum which I love for it's Indep. Fund. Baptist-ishness (Is that a word? lol).

A BIG CONGRATS to your Marine!!! Also rejoicing with you all re: the house closing. That is so funny about your photos, for some reason I had always pictured in my mind that you lived in a single story home - so I was surprised at Will vacuuming the stairs. lol

And yes, a 40-acre farm with oceanfront property would suit me just right. LOL Maybe in heaven. Have a GREAT week! ((hugs))
