Sister Skirts

Elastic has never been my favorite thing
{and that is an understatement}
but recently I countered my dislike for elastic
by volunteering to make a few skirts
for a few ladies I know.

After looking at online tutorials,
watching countless YouTube videos,
reading sewing books and articles,
and days of practice...
I think I may have finally
figured out the trick! {Phew!}

So while I was 'whipping up' a few skirts,
I made each of our girls one...

They were thrilled to have
a bright, new skirt...
and I was thrilled to have made them one
(and to have figured out elastic... well, mostly).

Shalom!

and her hands hold the distaff."

They are lovely!! I'm so glad you found the trick-- I was feeling badly making you work with dreaded elastic, lol ;) I've only worked with it a few times, and I just sewed the fabric over big enough for the elastic to fit through & pulled it through (does that make sense?) I've never actually sewn it on.

Great job, friend!! And your daughters look lovely :)

Love the skirts---my daughter came in while I was looking and told me that she like them too---I think it may have been a hint that I should get busy and get sewing! :-)
I've had mixed results with elastic so I can understand your frustation. If there was one or two particular tutorials that were especially helpful to you, would you be willing to share them with us?
I'm wanting to try to make a t-shirt dress for myself---I'd never been taught the way you show on here and was thrilled to think that I may be able to make one that would turn out right! I'll be sure to let you know if it does.:-)

Thank you, ladies! :)

Leslie ~ Thank you. :) That way makes sense, just hasn't worked for me in the past. lol Don't feel badly... I'm glad I had the motivation to learn how to do this. ;)

Michelle ~ What helped me the most was the following video on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20_cOFIlb_Y

The key (for me) was to mark my elastic and fabric in quarters, like she shows. This has been the ONLY thing that has worked for me. Hope that helps!
How fun to make a t-shirt dress! Hope it goes well. I'd love to see it when you're done! Happy sewing!

Shalom ~

I have issues with elastic from store bought clothes, it always twists in it's casing. These are very cute and sassy! I have given you an award if you would like to come by and pick it up.

Thank you, Mama! Love and miss you bunches! :)

Mrs. Mandy ~ I have the same issues when I purchase something store bought, that's why I like to sew my elastic down. :)
Thank you for thinking of me with the award. Your thoughtfulness is a blessing. ~ Christina
