A Shelter in the Time of Storm...

The Lord’s our Rock, in Him we hide,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

A shade by day, defense by night,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
No fears alarm, no foes afright,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

The raging storms may round us beat,
A Shelter in the time of storm
We’ll never leave our safe retreat,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

O Rock divine, O Refuge dear,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
Be Thou our Helper ever near,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Lyrics: Vernon Charlesworth, ca. 1880. Composer: Ira Sankey, ca. 1885.

Singing praises (the above song) while sitting in the hall
during a tornado warning this evening.

There are times in our lives when we have to realize
that faith involves accepting whatever may happen
and trusting that Jesus Christ is in control
and works all things for His good.
Tornado warnings are such a time like that.
We have no control and it can be easy
to run away with our fears of the unknown possiblities.
Life is like that, too. It is full of uncertanties.
We have no control. God is in control.
Praise Him for Who He is.
Rejoice in those times when we cannot do anything
except trust and rest in Him!
Accept whatever circumstances
or unknown thing that may happen,
knowing that He in control and will perform His will.
What peace we can have in the storms!

"What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee." Psalm 56:3

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee." ~ Isaiah 26:3

You know, I think this is the second time you've posted about a tornado warning and yet both times I've never realized it was going on.

(Out of curiosity, did you hear it on the radio, see it on the web??)

Anyways, glad y'all made it through! (we did too! :) )

Rebekah ~ It was on the radio (FBN) and online (weather.com). They said the radar picked one up and it was supposed to be at the front gate around 7:15pm. It was during the severe thunderstorm warning we were having this evening. ;o)

Hi Christina,
Wow, tornado season already for you - too cool here yet, of course, but we have had a couple little thunderstorms. I love that song and wonderful devotiion. Glad to hear you made it through okay.

Crouched down in your safe place. We've been there too. But like you said, you can "let the peace of God rule in your hearts."

We had a very bad hurricane in 2004 and spent the whole sleepless night similarly. Our song for that night was "Till the Storm Passes By."

Praise the Lord you and your family have "a haven at home"! For so many today, home is a battleground, troubled by abusive relationships.

And thanks for posting the gospel song by Charlesworth and Sankey. (Today's the anniversary of Ira Sankey's birth in 1840.) The chorus reminds us of our true spiritual home and refuge, that "Jesus is a Rock in a weary land" (taken from a prophecy in Isa. 32:1-2).

God bless you and your family. I encourage you to check my daily website on hymns, Wordwise Hymns.
