For Today: Monday, November 17, 2008...

Outside my window...
the sky is bright blue and the sun is shining brightly

I am thinking...
of the things I am aiming to accomplish this week

I am thankful for...
a church where God's Word is our authority
and that It is taught & preached in truth & in love;
for the Holy Spirit, Who teaches me

From the learning rooms...
we are aching for regularity
but are still enjoying the times of learning we do have,
whether they be more 'formal' or informal

From the kitchen...
a shameful amount of dishes from the weekend
are awaiting attention and the fridge needs a new menu posted

I am wearing...
white square neck dress with pink & blue floral print

I am creating...
nothing at present
but plan to have a few new sewing projects soon

I am reading...
the book of 2 Samuel & Luke {KJB}
& Laying Down the Rails {a book of habit training}

I am hoping (praying)...
for the Lord to continue reviving my heart

I am hearing...
quiet noises from the monitor, the heater blowing,
and Beth flipping pages in her reader

Around the house...
the kitchen & laundry room need attention
and the rest needs some deeper cleaning
{busy day! Ü}

One of my favorite things...
those rare but precious times
my beloved and I spend together alone,
nurturing our relationship

A few plans for the rest of the week:
bless our home; go to piano lessons that Ally teaches;
sew name tapes on military gear for a fellow church family member;
attend our midweek prayer service;
keep a friend's children for a few days as she travels
& her beloved is away, too; go to the dentist;
hold the fort as my own beloved travels;
and go to our homeschool park day

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

What a promise to look forward to!

Whatever life on this earth may bring,
it is such a comfort & joy to think of the earth to come,
where Jesus Christ will dwell AND reign!
What a day that will be!

"Nevertheless we, according to his promise,
look for new heavens and a new earth,
wherein dwelleth righteousness."
~ 2 Peter 3:13

I so understand the "aching for regularity" in the learning rooms. God keeps reminding me that learning doesn't have to happen according to *my schedule*, but it's hard sometimes! Enjoyed your Daybook today and hope you have a wonderful week!

I was intrigued by the "Laying Down the Rails" sample. Although I have heard of Charlotte Mason and did homeschool my daughter for her first 2 years of school (she is in college now), I really never learned about Charlotte Mason.
Did she also right books for training "adults" or could you recommend a book for me to start with?

Schotzy ~ It's a blessing to know it was uplifting. Thank you for visiting.

Lisa ~ Yes, that, truly, is a favorite thing. ;o)

Jennifer ~ The Lord reminds me of that same thing, too, and I am thankful. Ü

PlainJane ~ Yes, another busy week, like usual. I look forward to the days of real simplicity at home but until then I will enjoy the few that I have. ;o)
Thank you on the congrats. lol Her Mr. Linky fills up fast! ;o)
Hope you have a blessed week, too!

Debbie V ~ Much of what Charlotte writes can be adapted to adults, as she reminds that we lead by example. There are many habits & principles there that apply to all ages. What I am really liking about Laying Down the Rails is how it not only talks about the importance of habits, etc... but it focuses on particular habits. I am, currently, unknowing of any book written, specifically, for adults but the ideas in the book could/should, certainly, be applied by adults and you may still find it quite helpful. If I come across something else, I will let you know.
Thank you for visiting me!

I really enjoyed your Daybook. It is inspiring and encouraging.

I read the question about a Charlotte Mason book for us as adults. From what I have been able to read in her Original Home Schooling Series, it is directed at us as the parents and educators. The titles are: Home Education, Parents and Children, School Education, Ourselves, Formation of Character, and A Philosophy of Education. They all, as you said, speak to us as the ones who set example for our children, but even moreso, they give us thought in her style of realizing and forming our thoughts and opinions about things that, a lot of times, we do not consider.

I think her whole premise is re-training our own thoughts and misconceptions in order to train our children anyway, which is a huge shift in an adult.

Blessings to you. Have a great week!

Jacque ~
Thank you for your thoughts.
I agree that her Home Schooling Series would be excellent! The books may be a little 'intense' to begin with but, oh, how beneficial. And, yes, I, too, think her whole premise was to re-train those that were training children. Her series (& other books about her methods) have been a blessing to me.
Thank you, again, for your thoughts and for visiting! ;o)
