Regency Gown and Jacket ...

The past few weeks, I have been working on sewing my gown
for the Marine Corps Ball that my beloved & I were to attend.

I chose the
regency gown pattern with modifications.
I used the
regency sleeve and skirt with a square neck bodice.
I widened the bodice for gathering,
gathered it, & attached it
to a waistband then added a ribbon and a rose.

Here is the final project...

I was thankful for the elegant look

without the compromise of modesty.

In addition to the gown,
I opted to make a long regency jacket

This was my first time making this & it was quite a challenge
(since I didn't have time to practice on it).
I was glad that it turned out as well as it did

(& that I had gotten extra material for mess ups).

I, also, whipped up a little drawstring purse/bag
to go along with the gown...

No pattern was used.
I simply used a large bowl to draw a circle
on two pieces of fabric then sewed them together,
turned them right side out, slip stitched the opening,
made a casing, and a 'drawstring.
Very simple and practical for the evening.

Here are my beloved and I together...

lol

Here we are on a more 'serious' note...

We sat through the ceremony and the dinner
then left as the "social hour" commenced.
We had a lovely time and enjoyed our evening together.

Ahhh...a thing of beauty that Marine Corps uniform is! I love how you added the red to your dress to match the blood stripe on his pants. Nice touch. Very thoughtful. You are a beautiful couple and I enjoy reading about your family. Your children are so sweet and you much be very proud of them.

Hi Christina,
Oh, your gown turned out sooo lovely. I love the way your dress matches his dress pants - great idea! And the jacket, oh the jacket - it's beautiful! It looks really pretty on you - you can make me one of those any time :). What a good looking couple. Every time I see your sewing creations, it makes me want to take up sewing - but I know almost nothing about sewing. I can do home decor stuff & help the girls a bit, but to sew something for myself is unknown territory. lol Have a Blessed day!!!

Valerie ~ Thank you! Ü

Theresa ~ Thank you! So glad you're up & running, again.

Mrs. Trixi ~ Thank you. Yes, 'social hour' is not for us and since it is not required we choose to leave then. But I was glad to support my beloved during an evening he was surrounded by his fellow Marines.

Rachel ~ Thank you. I'm glad us matching was noticeable. We did have a good time being together.

Melody ~ Thank you. Yes, it was a blessing to be able to make something modest to fit the 'occasion'.

Mama ~ Thank you. I am glad that you liked it! I love you & miss you. (Lord willing, we'll be seeing you soon!)

Madeleine ~ Thank you for your kind words.

PlainJane ~ Thank you! The jacket was a real challenge. ;o)
If you can do home decor, you can learn pattern sewing for clothing. I knew NOTHING 5-6 years ago and was able to learn. You could, too. ;o) Come for a visit & I'd love to get you started!

Blessings ~ Thank you! And thank you for visiting.

Nikowa ~ Thank you very much.

Michelle ~ Thank you! My beloved & I have always played in pictures. Even one of our wedding photos, we are sticking our tongues out. I guess you could call it our 'signature' in photos. We are often found with our tongues out in our photo books!

Mrs. Melody ~ Thank you very much! I agree that the Marine dress blues is the best uniform (but, I confess, I have a biased opinion). I do love the way they look, too!

Jodi ~ Thank you. I have always wanted us to match & was so glad we were able to! The silk lapels were actually an accident that turned out quite well! ;o)

Nikki ~ Thank you! I am proud of him. Ü

Kristi ~ Thank you very much!

All of your kind words & encouragement have been such a blessing! Thank you!
